STOP PRESS as of 8th September 2013:

Around 40 people have booked on the Annual Dinner already. . There is still accomodation at the Cheesehouse Bukhouse just down the road in Bamford  - please consider staying at the bunkhouse and be environmentally friendly - save the fuel and emmisions driving to and from Bamford on saturday for the fell race/dinner and on sunday for the climbing and walking activity.

Yorkshire Bridge Inn, Bamford

This key event in the clubs calendar makes a welcome return to the Peak District in 2013 before returning to Snowdonia for the 70th Anniversary Dinner in October 2014.

The Annual Dinner brings together members, associate members and their partners from all over the UK and further afield for a social and active weekend. This year we have booked a venue which is accessible to all and also has sensibly priced alternative accommodation a very short distance away.

Bamford has a well served railway station so access to the accommodation by public transport is very straightforward for those who wish to go green. All of the club activity over the weekend will also be accessible without the need to drive.

This year, we are lucky to have two members of The Imperial Trans-Antarctic Centenary Expedition

http://www.south2014.com/

To carry out the “Unfinished Business” of Sir Ernest Shackleton and his men in 1914.

In honour of Sir Ernest’s incredible leadership, Team ITACE propose to retrace the steps taken 100 years previously to cross the Antarctic continent. We wish to celebrate the challenge of Antarctic exploration, the achievements, the innovations and the sacrifices – all to educate and inspire others in the same way that Shackleton inspires us.

The expedition will commence at the start of the Austral Summer, approximately Oct/Nov 2014. The purpose of the expedition is to make the crossing as Shackleton intended; he viewed it as the last great polar journey after Amundsen and Scott conquered the South Pole in 1911 and 1912.

Raffle:

Prizes include:

New Podsacs Alpine 40 Rucksack, Pair of Leki Makalu Titanium Lite trekking poles, Rockfax Guide books (Eastern Grit, Western Grit and Northern England).

If you would like to donate something to the raffle please contact Andy or bring it along on Saturday. Tickets are £2 each. All proceeds go direct to support the Imperial Trans-Antarctic Centenary Expedition

Sunday

Climbing at Bamford Edge from 11am led by Colin Maddison

The Sunday climbing venue is Bamford Edge. I’ll be there by 11.00am latest and probably earlier.

This fine gritstone edge overlooks Bamford village and the Ladybower Reservoir and is within walking distance of both the Yorkshire Bridge Inn and the Cheesehouse Bunkhouse; or there is some parking at the start of the normal approach. A minor road leaves the A6013 about a mile north of Bamford and just south of the Yorkshire Bridge Inn and climbs the hill below the crag. About half way up the hill is a lay-by. A path leads north-west up onto the ridge and an easy walk leads to the first rocks in about 15 minutes.

There are plenty of routes at most grades so there should be something for everyone. Starred routes include Randy’s Wall (VS), Bamford Wall (S), Neb Buttress (HVS), Auricle (E2), Wrinkled Wall (VS) and Brown’s Crack (HS).

I’ll probably set up camp below Neb Buttress initially.

Be there or, well, somewhere else. But there is no excuse really as it is so close to the Annual Dinner accommodation and access is easy from Manchester by car or train to Bamford.
