The KMC Navigation Challenge

Introduction

The KMC navigation Challenge is a orienteering challenge in the spectacular hills surrounding the village of Marsden, Colne Valley, West Yorkshire. Hidden in them hills are 10 orienteering controls that need to be found. The participants need to navigate around the trails to find the controls, but only have Sunday 5th July 2020 to do it.

The race will begin at the national trust carpark in Marsden (near the train station). There is lots of space for cars and it’s free to park there. Participants will be given a map, a set of grid coordinates for the controls, and a punch card, but must remember to bring a compass!!

This is one of the first outdoor meets to follow the lockdown in 2020, and hope you will consider venturing out to support the meet. There are some caveats that come with attending the meet. Please read the meet details closely.

Details

  • Due to ongoing restrictions, participants must sign up before attending the meet. Please use the ‘Add me’ function on the web page, or email, text or call the meet leader.
  • The meet is open to 6 people. The meeting time will be provided by the leader on confirmation of attendence.
  • Participants must follow social distancing guidelines at all times. Members are responsible for this and are encouraged to bring their own hand sanitizer and personal PPE.
  • Marsden is easily accessed by train. From Manchester Victoria it only takes about 20 mins. Please let me know if you need some advice.
  • Marsden is on the very edge of OL1 so I’m going to print maps for everyone. Make sure you bring a compass though!
  • It may be wet and muddy! Please come prepared for the prevailing conditions.
  • Marsden is a small community that is used to walkers, however; it remains fairly quiet after lockdown so please be respectful to local people. Thanks.
