Another Roaches outing! Damascus Crack

By Roger Dyke

On my first outing of the year in 2013 I spent a long while working out the crux on Damascus Crack, and summoning up the courage to lead the thin moves on the wall to the left of the crack.

Many starts and retreats.

Much advice and encouragement - and invitations to quit while I'm near the gear - from three friends.

At long last I actually make the moves, and after more advice from below I'm past the crux and onto easier ground.

Congratulations drift up - overpowered by the drill-sergeant voice of an unseen watcher in the trees: -

"That was a triumph of determination over lack of ability!".
