Lakes District Camping Meet
Present: Sandy and Jim Gregson, Peter Walker, Keith Williams, Margaret and Frank Williams.
The forecast was bad, the campsite is magic and the mountains superb, sublime. 25 personal invites were issued, two people sent their apologies and six lucky mountaineers turned up. We were outnumbered on the site, however, by a team of about 20 camping Morris persons (not just men) and also Morris Minors.
Saturday SG, JG, FW, and MW did the planned walk over Seatallan, Haycock, Red Pike, and down from Dore Head. The day improved and we finished in peasant sunlight. PW and KW arrived at lunch time and decided to scramble on Buckbarrow and a walk over Carling Stone by Greendale Tarn and back down Greendale Beck. A reet good day was had by all finishing with the evening in the Screes pub in Nether Wasdale.
Sunday dawned grey and with the clag well down the fells. Despite this PW and KW decided they'd like to go higher that the proposed Whin Rigg round and drove to Brakenclose, walked up Lingmell, up Scafell with thick mist and lots of people milling around. Then via Sprinkling Tarn, Sty Head and down to Wasdale Head and so back to Brackenclose. Again the day improved until we had bright sunshine in the afternoon.
Party "B" did the planned walk over Whin Rigg and Illgill Head and SW over Tongue Moor to go down Miterdale. We climbed in lovely sunshine through Miterdale forest over Irton Fell and backto Flass and Nether Wasdale. Although all decamped M and F decided to stay Sunday night and avoid the traffic. On Monday we visited Gosforth's church of St. Mary to see the 1000 year old Nordic cross and the Green Man in the church, wonderful.
Yer shudda bin there !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Meet Promo:
Join me on this delightful camp site at Nether Wasdale (GR sd126041 Outdoor Leisure 6- SW Lakes). Beautiful site, good facilities and two pubs opposite each other in the village.
Easy walking round the lake, or you can take in the whole circuit at about 21 miles and 11,000' climb!!! Climbing on Pillar, Great Gable, Scafell Crag and Pike's Crag. Scrambling on Buckbarrow or Middlefell, Yewbarrow and Red Pike. Tons to do for all tastes, surely Ken could find some fishing around here, bet he knows all the places.
More details of my intended plans for both days nearer the day. Be there at the heart of the English Lake District!!!
