Winter Bouldering
The Bridestones is one of the major Yorkshire bouldering crags. Numerous boulders spread out on the hillside above Todmorden provide excellent bouldering, including some classic highballs, with generally good landings. The rock is rough, and the climbing tends to feature unusual moves, which can be tricky to work out. Many problems may seem to be undergraded on first acquaintance, but once you know how, they're easy! The crag is very exposed to the weather (hence, is quick drying).
Head to Cornholme on the A646 between Burnley and Todmorden. From Todmorden, turn right under a viaduct and head up Pudsey Road (it gets VERY steep!!) until you reach a T-junction. Turn right and park at the Sportsman's Arms on the left. From the car park walk 200m towards Hebden Bridge, then use the public footpath to walk up to the trig point. The Bridestones are just a few metres to the South.
I am planning on being at the carpark for 10:30am. I am planning on heading to the far end of the crag (nearest the Bridestone itself) and working my way back to the cars.
Please bring a pad, if you have one, and some pennies [you’ll need quite a few these days, Ed.] for a drink at the Sportsman's Arms afterwards.
