Yorkshire Dales Walk

This walk started out of Settle, headed steeply uphill and skirted past Warrendale Knotts and Attermire Scar. We continued almost – but not quite – to Malham Cove, then heading North towards Malham Tarn to meet the Pennine Bridleway. Return to Settle was via the bridleway, with great views of a snowy Pen-y-Ghent in the distance and past some rather impressive cattle (tiptoeing cautiously round a dead cow who looked to be on the verge of exploding). After a pause to allow Lorna and Iain to pat some donkeys, we descended to Settle for excellent tea and cakes (including a gluten-free option) in the Market Square. We were able to sit outside for tea – in retrospect this was probably the warmest day for months to come!

Meeting 10am at Settle tourist information office (SD 820 637), this walk takes in Attercliffe Scar and Malham Cove, then returns to Settle and its many teashops via Langscar and Jubilee Cave.
Distance about 11 miles. Can be shortened or lengthened depending on conditions, and whether anyone fancies a dip in the tarn (not me).
