Ty Powdwr working meet
Members: Iain McCallum, John Castick, Dave Wylie, Gareth Williams, Lucie Crouch, Colin Maddison, Mary Stuart, Ann Waters, Al Metelko, Trish Cranston, Laura Collier.
The group was woken by thunder and lightning on Saturday morning. DW, GW and LC sat bolt upright in their beds as I wondered when the lightening would start having only managed to have heard the thunder by failing to open my eyes.
During breakfast I struggled to find jobs for a keen crew, the roof slates having been replaced on Friday before I had even arrived. Nevertheless tasks were found, Al and Trish braved the extraordinarily midge friendly conditions behind the hut to paint the outside window sills, Colin rearranged the kitchen furniture to paint the wall, somehow Trish managed to wash the floor and do some painting with me in the ladies. Lucie dusted away several spiders and their webs. Gareth had a great idea to put hooks up in the drying room which he began to put into action. I spent time in the store room having a general sort through and managed to find some stuff to chuck out. Don't worry, there is still plenty of "useful" stuff still in there. DW replaced a slate on the wall of the entrance to the hut which had taken much hassle either from smokers or big kit bags passing through. DW also sharpened the kitchen knives and twiddled with the door closer. Iain provided refreshments and lunch throughout the day while John took a day off from strimming to deal with a touch of Manflu.
Duties done I walked into Deniolen to get a couple of beers, saved from venturing into the pub by some helpful doormen who directed me to the shop round the corner. Caught some rays on the way back and found Iain and John in the lounge.
Everyone else had ventured off to the quarries to support Gareth's attempt at Flashdance E3 5c/6a. He fell off twice before abandoning it, fingers burnt but willing to try another day. Colin started an E1 to retrieve the gear, then it started raining. In spite of the prolonged nature of these activities no-one beat Ann and Mary in making a day of it; their and Colin's dinner was delayed till nightfall as they arrived at the boulders from Milestone Buttress at dusk.
The rain was kept off on Sunday by ferociously strong winds, at least they were round Tryfan where DW and I climbed First Pinnacle Rib and Snowden where Iain walked the shoulder back to Llanberis. Al and Trish wandered Bodnant Gardens and the coast, Colin and Gareth did three routes at Cloggy. Ann scarpered off early back to parenting duties. John resumed his strimming.
