Ty Powdwr - Anniversary Bonfire Meet

Guests: Bron Edwards, Natty Kean, Aleksandra Pawlik, Jasmine Pitts, Beth Shearman

When you see the mulled wine being stirred with a bread knife you know the meet's going well.

During the day on Saturday Bron and Dave walked down to Llanberis to buy new boots, then gave them a workout in horizontal rain and gale force winds up on Moel Eilio.  Emily and Aleks went for a 5mile run around Llyn Padarn, picking up a new pair of buffalo gloves and a map on the way.  Jasmine and Natty played monopoly in the warmth of the hut.

On the way back Emily called in to Sally's and offered a glass of mulled wine and some cake, which was declined.  Sharon and John were also invited.

As the evening set in, a vote was taken in light of the wet weather to definitely have a bonfire.  This was after everyone filled their boots with sticky toffee pudding, toffee sauce, apples and cream knocked up by Emily, with apples carefully prepared on the quiet by Lester.

Christine offered to help with the bonfire if it weren't for the very important activity of cooking taking place.  In lieu of Christine, Emily and Stu ventured forth, saw and torch in hand, finding some furry friends along the way - mice who had made a home underneath the tables set aside for burning.  Cute.

'It looks like a ceremony's taking place' said Jasmine to the multiple lantern burners surrounding the bonfire site, 'who's being offered to the gods?'  At this point Dave Wylie, chief instigator of said lanterns stepped away into the dark night.

The bonfire roared well considering the dampness of half of the timber - Dave's efforts scrunching up a half tonne of magazines paid off.  Of note was Stu's obsession with repeatedly jumping up and down on hot timbers squeaking 'it's hot' at extremely regular intervals and Emily's obsession with poking the fire with a large stick.  Beth provided an excellent commentary on the life and activities of the lesser known Stuart.

Sunday saw a large scale decamp to the Ogwen valley for walking up north ridge of Tryfan and climbing on Milestone Buttress.  Emily, Aleks, Jasmine, Natty and Lester took a meandering line amongst the rocks of the ridge, roping up for a section just to be safe, thanks to the grease of a day of drizzle covering the rocks.  Much fun, followed by tea and cake in a delightful tea shop in Bethesda.

Others walked elsewhere and then drifted east to the land of Manchester.

A good meet with lots of laughs.

Meet Promo:

The annual KMC bonfire meet will be going ahead this year on 8th/9th November at Ty Powdwr.

However, PLEASE NOTE this year in consideration of our neighbours and their livestock we would like to keep the fireworks low key, focussing more on the bonfire and celebrations than fireworks themselves.

If you wish to bring fireworks we request that you bring only ground level displays. Please DO NOT bring loud or aerial (rockets or mortars) fireworks.

Last year there was an unfortunate incident in the area when a horse injured itself and had to be put down having been frightened by fireworks. As a result we have received representations from our neighbours and the police not to have loud or aerial displays.

Whilst the incident last year cannot be linked to fireworks at Ty Powdwr I am sure you will agree that in the interests of good neighbourliness and the reputation of the club it is appropriate to keep our own fireworks low key this year.

We’ll still have a good evening.

Thank you.
