Saturday saw heavy rain hitting the Snowdonia National Park and consequently the options of things to do were severely limited to things which you;

  • could get soaked to the bone doing despite all your technical layers,
  • did inside and got soaked getting to while running to the car, or
  • would accept that you'd get wet doing and run a risk of hypothermia.

Various groups set off to attempt one or more of the above activities. Urban explorer Nick was excited about his first trip into the slate mines while Tim was less excited about his first run down to 'beris and back from the hut. He may have enjoyed it more in a canoe. In the afternoon a small group set off to "Indie",the wall where all the cool kids of the North Wales scene hang out A certain member of this group, who will remain nameless as will his yellow van, had such a good time there he questioned what people might think of him if he came back from Manchester specifically to finish of one of the problems before it was reset.

The evening event saw a slightly late start to meaty and veggie Haggis, with all the trimmings and desert! Everyone pitched in either cooking, washing or cleaning up which really helped the evening go smoothly. Finally KMC members and guests moved through to the living room for the whisky tasting, working through a selection of 5 whiskies . These were accompanied by films from Helmet of Doom productions (also available on Vimeo) as well as selection of films short films by other amateur climbing film makers. Finally the evening finished with Angel's Share - a future classic whisky/heist movie which finished well past everybody's bed time.

Sunday's weather was better than Saturday's and saw various people exploring options other than the ones available on Saturday. However despite the sun in the sky the clouds saw fit to dump everything they had on the three man team just about to start abseiling from the top of Milestone Buttress, turning what was the ab and descent path into a scale model of Angel Falls and the Gauja River.

Meet Promo:

Join me for a haggis dinner and whisky tasting at the hut after a big day out on the hills. I'll get the fire on and have a haggis caught / unearthed and cooked ready for dinner. After a filling supper we'll adjourn to the fire side and work our way through several very different whiskies; interspersed with various quotations and words of wisdom about the topic at hand. Estimated cost not including hut fees is about £20

Please let me know by 5pm 25th January latest if you'd like to join me so that I can get appropriate provisions organised. Also please let me know if you'd prefer you haggis caught (meaty) or unearthed (veggie).
