MEET CANCELLED - Chew Valley Skyline
++++ THIS MEET IS NOW CANCELLED DUE TO COVID-19 RESTRICTIONS +++++
Classic Chew Valley Skyline walk
Let me know in advance if you plan to attend - the maximum number will be appropriate to fit in with the latest Covid regulations/tiers and prevailing situation.
Let's face it, 2021 can't start without a dose of relentless optimism that we can actually have a meet, can it? In that vein, I'd like to invite all members to consider how we move beyond this pandemic and start to think about how the KMC and it's members can act both socially AND responsibly by holding outdoor meets, whilst following both national and local government guidelines and those set by our representative body, the BMC; guidelines which have been approved by Sport England and endorsed by the Government as part of the masterplan for a return to Grassroots sports activities.
As SAGE said earlier in the year, near to the start of the pandemic:
“Citizens should be treated as rational actors, capable of taking decisions for themselves and managing personal risk.”
Meet at 08.45 am for a 09.00 am start at Binn Green car park. The start time needs to be early as Dovestones / Binn Green gets busy on every weekend at the moment and the free parking available at Binn Green gets filled very early!
The walk will head up the wide reservoir track for about 30 minutes allowing good time for a catch up before the path narrows and winds among the lovely rocks and waterfalls of Birchens Clough before turning onto the edge to pass the Trinacle at Ravenstones. The first escape route follows the descent to Ashway Gap and cuts the distance to about 7km. Carrying on along the edge to the Cairn on the Foxes stone where a second descent option will give a 10km option. The route carries on past Bramley's Cot and round to the top Chew reservoir (lunch stop?). From here we can descend the wide easy reservoir track and walk a couple of options of flat routes round either side of the lower reservoir back to Binn Green (14km to 15km). Alternately, those who have eaten excess mince pies over Xmas may wish to carry on along the edge to Wimberry (possible descent here gives 18km) and Alphin then descending via the Oldham way and returning to Binn Green Green (21km). So a choice of route lengths and a day out for everyone - no matter the weather, fitness level or time available you can come and do something and exchange socially distanced New Year Greetings!!
Let me know in advance if you plan to attend - the maximum number will be appropriate to fit in with the latest Covid regulations/tiers and prevailing situation.
Full details of how members might attend this meet in a socially responsible way, following the relevant guidance will be emailed soon via the usual club email system.
