Ty Powdwr Big Routes

Colin Maddison

*** MEET FULLY BOOKED - PLEASE DO NOT ATTEND UNLESS YOU HAVE BOOKED WITH THE MEET LEADER ***

It’s billed as ‘Ty Powdwr Big Routes’ but this is a meet at our great hut so the world’s your oyster really for climbing, scrambling, walking and even cycling around Snowdonia. Or, if sea cliffs take your fancy, Gogarth and Rhoscolyn are only a stone’s throw away.

NB: The number of people we can have at Ty Powdwr will be dependant on the prevailing Covid-19 restrictions. But subject to guidance from the Welsh Assembly we hope to use the meet to extend the use of the hut to more users making best use of dormitory and camping options.

AS NUMBERS MAY BE RESTRICTED PLEASE SIGN UP USING THE 'INTEND TO ATTEND' FACILITY OR LET ME KNOW DIRECT THAT YOU WANT TO COME. ATTENDANCE WILL BE ON A FIRST COME FIRST SERVED BASIS.

The choice of activity is yours but it is billed as 'big routes' so I will suggest a challenge in that spirit.

1000ft of climbing, spread over at least two crags, plus at least one 3000ft summit in a day.

Yes, it is an imperial meet, but if you must climb in metric it is 304.8m of climbing and a 914.4m summit. But it will sound less impressive when you tell your friends! Either way you’ll need to get your multi-pitch heads on and an early start might not be a bad idea. Ideal training for anyone heading to the Alps, Dollies or further afield.

The prize – personal satisfaction and the admiration of the meet leader, plus a mention in the meet report. What more could you want?

Don’t want to climb? That’s fine. But if you still fancy a challenge, walkers/scramblers could try for at least three 3000ft (914.4m) summits spread across Snowdon, the Glyders and the Carnedds. Cyclists might have a stab at 100 miles (or the less aesthetically pleasing 160.934km).

Sea cliff climbers should avoid trying to set any depth records.

Weather permitting I suggest you target the Saturday then we can share our tales of daring do over a glass or two as we relax in the comfortable splendour of Ty Powdwr.

Come along for a great weekend and to put a few more quid in the Ty Powdwr coffers.

Colin

PS: Swimmers also welcome. Six Llyns perhaps?
