Ty Powdwr - Rhoscolyn and Gogarth

Colin Maddison

Although billed as Rhoscolyn and Gogarth this is a meet at our great hut so all are welcome whether you want to climb at the coast or savour the many delights of Snowdonia - walk, scramble or climb - whatever you fancy is fine by the meet leader.

For those that want to, the general idea is to climb on one or other or both of Rhoscolyn and or Gogarth on at least one of the days. Gogarth doesn't need much billing. Adventurous trad climbing in potentially serious situations but with many classic routes, with the alternative of Holyhead Mountain is the seas are running high.

Rhoscolyn offers an equally worthwhile alternative with the added attraction of good beer in the White Eagle. To name just a few routes, at Llawder Icarus (HVS 4c, 5a) and the Sun (E3 4c, 5c) are the classics (helpfully non-tidal) and an entertaining sea-level traverse will bring you to Truant (VS 4c) in the impressive setting of Fall Block Zawn. A short walk further on to Sea Cave Zawn is the best, and not to be missed, sea-cliff Diff anywhere - Symphony Crack. Further on, and worth the short walk, is Porth Saint where the lower tier offer a good introduction to sea-cliffs on single pitch routes in another great setting.

.... and, of course Snowdonia has more great walking, climbing and scrambling than you can shake a stick at!

Guidebooks: For Gogarth and Rhoscolyn Gowgarth North and Gogarth South (Groundup 2008 & 2015) or North Wales Climbs (Rockfax). For Snowdonia - all the usual. For further information see UKC.

Please sign up on the website or let me know if you’re coming.

ALSO, Covid is still with us so please do a lateral flow test if you’re planning to attend. I’ll put something on the website as well.
