Windgather Cobweb Duster and Hot Pot Photo comp

Chris K

Christine

22ish people attended the Hotpot and Photo Comp at the Navigation Inn.  The Inn fed us a tasty hotpot with apple crumble and lakes of custard, then we settled down to watch the slideshow.  There were some fantastic entries this year and a few great new photographers so it was a pleasure to see all the pictures.  Thanks very much to Andrew Croughton for judging the competition, and to Chris Kastavunis for his Windgather meet and Dave Rainsbury for organising the pre-hotpot walk.

Winners were as follows:

Mountain Landscape:

1st: Yvonne King for "Dolomites Day"

3rd: Andy Stratford for "Everest Base Camp and a Dozen Trekkers on the Khumbu Glacier"

Mountain Action:

2nd: Jessica Pealing

3rd: Stuart Hurworth

Meet Promo:

Windgather Cobweb Buster, President’s Hot Pot & Photographic Competition

The Hotpot this year is on Sunday 24th March, please join us either :

Climbing at Windgather with Chris Kastavunis:  Chris will be at the crag from around 10-10:30.  Please try to share lifts as much as possible as there is limited parking.  If there are any changes they will be advertised on Scribble - wet weather plan probably Awesome Walls.

Walking with Dave Rainsbury: Cracken Edge and Mount Famine from Buxworth Basin.
This fairly short (8 miles) walk is perfect to sharpen appetites for the hotpot supper. Cracken Edge quarry has some potential for bouldering, though some of the rock is unstable. The rock shoes may be in use again at our lunch stop at Big Stone with excellentviews across to Kinder. Down to Peep O' Day then over Mount Famine before descending back to Chinley and Buxworth. A bigger loop is possible for the more energetic taking in Edale Cross and Brown Knoll.
Gather in the car park in Buxworth Basin at 11am.

Then meet for the Hotpot and Photo competition later on.  This will be a really nice opportunity to enjoy memories from last year and the winter, and get outdoors on the rock (for me anyway!) to start the climbing season.

This year the Hotpot is at the Navigation Inn at Buxworth - not far off the A6 so ideally sited to drop in on the way back to Manchester from Windgather.  Food will be served at about 6.30pm, but we are welcome to turn up earlier (from 5pm) and have a drink and a chat in their function room.  Please note it won't be possible to order different food (as we used to at the Globe - you could try booking in advance but they are busy on Sundays).

Please note the function room is used for their carvery on Sundays - they will be finishing this and then setting up for us, but we are welcome to chat in a quiet area of the function room.

The menu is a vegan hotpot with bread, then vegan apple crumble and (non vegan) custard or oat cream for a very reasonable £12.
