Fri 26th Apr - Sun 28th Apr, 2024
Keswick Hawse End Centre
Thursday
Andy S & Lewis S were the advanced party and went to Raven Crag (Langdale) and climbed The Original Route (S 4a), Centipede (S 4a) and Revelation (HS 4b) where Lewis missed the belay and climbed the whole route in one robbing Andy of his lead on a fantastic pitch - apparently this is usually Andy’s trick so he got a taste of his own medicine! (This is a direct quote from Lewis, I have no comment on Andy's flagrant pitch stealing reputation).
Friday
Leah & Lewis S went and did Route 1 (VD) at Scout Crag (Langdale).
Harry P and a friend climbed at the Shepherds crag Brown slabs as a reccy for the next day, Brown Slabs (D) and Brown Slabs Direct (VD).
Andy & Jo S met some Alpacas while hiking, the WhatsApp group was Alpaca'd with puns after that.
People were arriving throughout the evening, with some last minute additions and last minute cancellations, the KMC still made a great showing with 14 members in total.
Saturday
Andy S & Phil D climbed Raven Crag Buttress (VD) (Borrowdale).
James P & Lewis S did Gillercombe Buttress (S 4a).
Jo & Noah Macey climbed at Quayfoot buttress and went up Castle Rigg, later Noah also ran up Catbells.
Jo S, Kate & Leah took a walk around Derwent and enjoyed some exeptional looking food in Keswick.
Mich & Stu did Corvus (D) on Raven Crag (Borrowdale).
Harry P and 4 friends climbed at Shepherds Crag, with 4 successful topouts on Brown Slabs Scoop (HS), with only a single chalk bag between us there was some delicate gear hauling involved.
Nat & Guy climbed 3 multi-pitch routes from vdiff to VS at Castle Rock of Triermain near Whirlmere.
The day ended with a BBQ, a birthday and a game of Incohearent where the late nighters learnt too much about each other.
Sunday
A few groups left relatively early to get home.
Nat & Guy went hiking around Haweswater near Penrith, on the way back to Knutsford and Sheffield, not without first mentioning how much they had enjoyed socialising with everyone, including familiar faces from previous meets.
Lewis & Leah, along with Stu and Mich bringing up the rear, did Little Chamonix (VD) at Shepherd’s Crag.
Andy & Jo S went for more hiking, bagging Birketts.
Harry P, James P, Phil D and Harry's friends set off to do the Helvellyn edges circular. Phil had issues with an old knee injury and returned to the pub early, where we all met him after the hike for a drink, photo evidence suggests Phil was waiting a long time...
A few more of Harry's friends and family were hiking, strolling and generally enjoying the scenery throughout the weekend. A great time was enjoyed by all, already looking forward to next year.

Meet Promo:
A weekend in the Lakes, there's plenty of climbing nearby with Borrowdale just down the road, Shepherd's crag is within walking distance (45-60 min) or a short drive away. The centre is a 2 min walk to the lakes' edge and Cat Bells is just up the hill. Keswick is also a short drive away.
This is a combined event with my own family and friends that I've organised a couple of times before, the centre sleeps 49 so there's lots of space, it's £23.50 per night for dorm style sleeping. There's a big sitting room in the centre, as well as a full catering kitchen and dining hall. The people that attend cover a wide age range, so families are welcome.
I normally dedicate one day to get my less experienced climbing friends outdoors in a group, but I might try pairing people off for some easy multi-pitch or cragging this year (most people who get involved have decent indoor experience and have climbed outdoor at least once), nothing is set in stone though. On the other day I tend to take a bigger group on a hike. Previous years we've also taken kayaks and had a bunch of people out wild swimming. There'll also be a barbecue on the Saturday night.
KMC members who come along are welcome to join in or do their own thing entirely, for one or all days (I'll be heading down Friday morning to get the most out of it). Open to all members and prospectives.
I'll probably assign rooms to help ease things along, but fine with anyone swapping around as they wish.
I'm also happy to coordinate lifts for anyone that might need them, there is a good amount of parking, but car sharing makes things a lot easier.
