Cancelled Yorkshire Limestone - Giggleswick North

Daniel O'Brien

As part of the grand plan to teach Dan to “learn to love limestone”, our first stop will be Giggleswick North in Yorkshire.  By the time this (undoubtedly sunny) weekend comes around we’ll all be in peak condition after winter training and ready to prove those hours at the wall were worth it…

Described on UKC as “a popular evening or short-day venue” and by Roackfax as “a viable venue in winter during a dry spell as it gets plenty of sun,” Giggleswick North, with a solid mix of friendly bolted routes in the low and middle grades and some permadry steep horror shows should provide plenty to keep us busy.

Use the lay-bys on the north side of the A65, just west of Giggleswick village.  what3words for parking: ///final.civil.scorecard

We’ll aim to park up around 10am and head over to Woodcutter’s Buttress where there is plenty to get us started though the whole crag can be traversed along it’s base in ten minutes so there is plenty of flexibility if some places get crowded.

So come to Giggleswick!  Sunny, sociable, and perfect for getting reacquainted (or acquainted for the first time) with the joys of clipping bolts and trusting frictionless footholds.  Hope to see a few of you there to kick off the transition to summer in style!
