North Pembrokshire
This summer, we’re heading to the lovely St Davids area in North Pembrokshire for some relaxed climbing by the sea.
AI rekons:
‘North Pembrokeshire offers excellent, less-frequented traditional climbing, featuring volcanic and metamorphic rock rather than the limestone of the south. Key areas include St. David’s Head for dramatic sea cliffs like Trwyn Llwyd, and the Mynydd Dinas moors for high-quality, grit-like bouldering. The area features varied routes, from easy slabs to steep, challenging adventures.’
There’s a nice shiny new rockfax selected guidebook:
Pembroke and Gower Trad (2025)
And for the more discerning, a definitive one:
Pembroke Vol 1 North Pembroke - Cardigan Bay to Milford Haven (2013)
We plan to camp at Porthcalais campsite which is dog child friendly. It has nice flat grass pitches for tents and campervans, but no electric hook ups. Showers are £1 operated but it’s a bargain £10 a night for a simple pitch and who needs a shower on a climbing holiday?!

The campsite is a short walk from the great looking, friendly south facing slabs at Porth-y-Ffynnon and Pothclais, with other areas easily accessible along the coastal path. A short drive away is St David’s Head, for a more adventurous day out.
So, get your summer climbing fix sorted, sign yourself up and then please book direct with the campsite. Looking forward to seeing you there!
