Pembroke South
Well the meet leader couldn't make it and so most of the KMC were put off.
Members present: Dave Bone, Tony Major, Al Metelko & Trish Cranston.
The forecast for south Wales was pretty good for a BH so despite inconvenient high tides and the height of the bird season Tony and I set off for Pembroke - a long time since the last visit. We arrived late Saturday morning and headed straight for Stack Rocks (the Stacks were covered in birds, the cliff edge in bird watchers) to bimble about on the popular Crystal slabs in excellent weather, though one had to keep a eye on the swell to avoid a dousing. At the end of the day we opted for the simplicity of the original Bosherston campsite - a large group was there with double Manchester mini-bus support, but no other KMCer. Oh well - off to the pub for the evening - absolutely heaving but no KMC.
Sunday off to St. Govans for some classics in classic Pembroke good weather. The Tide was in and the swell was up, some quick sprints were required at times. A particularly stupid Gull had its nest by the foot of the descent chimney. Front line, Tactician, The Arrow, Munchies and Hangover (which is punishing) were the day's haul, followed by a slightly less crowded pub and a fleeting encounter with Al and Trish who wished to be registered as being on the meet.
On Monday it dawned dull and grey with a keen westerly breeze. Out at St. Govans car park it spattered with rain. Giving it time to stop and dry, Tony and I headed for the East side of Stennis head for some shelter only for the rain to start again on arrival. After hanging around for the rock to get thoroughly wet, we decided it wasn't going to dry out any time soon, so staged a strategic retreat in the search for dry rock, which ended up back at home unsatisfied.
A poor show from the KMC.

Meet Promo:
Masterplan, what masterplan? The planning has got as far as getting a grid reference for the campsite at St Petrox (SR 970975 (Landranger map 158). This is basecamp for the weekend. For those that are not familiar with it, put St Petrox in your browser and see entry in UKClimbing.com. This gives useful information including directions on how to get there. [Look on the right for the first Church on the Bosherston road, but not too hard otherwise you'll be through the hedge on the sharp left turn that follows. Ed.]
From there on it's up to you - there are choices of easy routes at Saddle Head, Stennis Head, Flimston Bay and Crystal Slabs, and harder routes pretty much everywhere else. You can also go swimming, but preferably not while still in climbing gear, and walking along the Coastal Path (ditto). High tide is around 1200 on the Saturday so if you don't fancy swimming, choose your routes wisely!
I can be contacted on the e mail and phone number in the Handbook if anyone has any questions.
