President's Hotpot & Annual Photo Competition
Members present: Michelle Harvie, Mark Garrod, Sue Brooke, Pete Hughes, Andrew Croughton, Ann Waters, Steve Waters, Kirsten Mundt.
Maybe not as many walking as climbing before the Hotpot, but we had 5 committee members plus 1/3rd of the Swiss section of the KMC.
It was hot and sunny, so the team made steady progress up Doctor’s gate, before heading off piste to Higher then Lower Shelf-stones. A bit more cross-country got us onto Bleaklow Head, before I decided to take one route, and promptly led off down the other! No problem – they both go down towards Longdendale, so I could have kept quiet. Another mild heather bash up to Glossop Low, then down to Cock Hill and back to the cars, hot and ready for a drink or three.
Hotpot and Photographic Competition.
Members Present: Lots.
Potential Members: Yes – great to see you there.
An excellent turnout for the evening, with 40+ members and guests partaking of the Hotpot and Apple Pie or the Globe’s bar menu.
Jim Symon kindly agreed to judge this year’s photo competition. The winners and runners up, which are now on the web.

Photos in digital format to me please (mark.garrod@btconnect.com) with details on which category each photo is being entered for, plus ideally a description of where and/or who each photo is of, 1 week ahead of the Hotpot, deadline Monday, April 4th latest.
Climbing meet: Meet leader Heather Brooke.
This year’s venue will be Burbage North. If the weather is good, I plan to be at the Long Tall Sally area by about 10am, however, if it’s raining I am planning on having a lay-in so expect me around 12pm.
Walking meet: Meet leader Mark Garrod.
As it seemed to work well last year, I am again planning a walk that will start at 1pm, and finish in time to allow a quick change of kit in/near the car, before heading of straight to the Hotpot. You can, of course, join the walk even if you can’t make the Hotpot. We will plan for a tea stop at some point on the walk (not in a tea-shop), but don’t expect the normal KMC lunch halt at 1.05pm – bring tea and cake instead?
We will meet and park in Old Glossop grid ref 046947. Head through Glossop on the A57 then take the left turn signposted Old Glossop. After about 600m take the right turn down past the factory to where the road ends in a loop at the bottom end of the Doctors gate path – park anywhere around there. Please share cars where possible.
The walk will head up Doctors Gate, over Bleaklow Head, then partway down Torside Clough Edge before heading back over the moors toward Cock Hill, and hence back to the cars. Something around 18km - that’s the plan, anyway – enough to earn a hearty hotpot. See you there.
