A beautiful cold day for this walk made the views lovely from start to finish. A little bit of wind on the tops meant it was particularly bitter at lunch. Plenty of slips and slides added to the entertainment as the paths were covered in ice. A good pace was maintained so we got back back to Ambleside in plenty of time for tea and cake.

It was great to see a few people I hadn't seen for ages and a new face I hadn't seen before!

In a change to my originally advertised plan of walking the Kentmere Horseshoe I have decided to start this walk somewhere with slightly more parking... Ambleside! Park where you like and meet outside the hotel at the top end of the high street. It's called the Salutation and it's a big white building; you can't miss it. We'd best be off walking by 9.30 so I'm afraid it's an early start from Manchester.

From Ambleside we will make our way to the summit of Wansfell before continuing along the ridge towards Kirkstone Pass and down the little visited valley of Woundale. Then it's up onto St Raven's Crag and down to the Kirkstone Pass Inn. Resisting temptation the final ascent of the day takes us up on to Red Screes before a lovely gentle descent back down into Ambleside where we might decide to stop off in the cafe before driving home. This is a really nice walk and hopefully we can catch up with a few people we haven't seen recently. Give us a ring if you have any questions.
