Fell Race Weekender
Fri 29th Sep - Sun 1st Oct, 2017
*Note the change of date from the handbook.
This year the fell race is returning to The Lake District and will be based from Irish Row in Coppermines Valley, Coniston. A traditional venue for the event and the scene of many a navigational error over the years, in true KMC style. As always the Fell Race will be on the Sunday giving people a chance to get out and play on the Saturday. If the weather allows Dow Crag is the obvious venue to head for with 3 star classics from Diff (Giant’s Crawl) to E6 (Paths of Victory) but there are also some nice crags nearer to the hut up around Levers Water. In the unlikely event of bad weather there are low level all weather slate options up at Hodge Close. Or dry tooling if that’s your thing. The walking options in the area are endless and you may get lucky and accidently recce a section of Sundays race.
We have 20 places booked in the hut for the Friday and Saturday nights at a cost of £10 per person per night . Book now to avoid disappointment, because the places are filling up fast. Contact me by phone or e-mail to reserve a space and cross my palm (well the clubs palm) with silver nearer the day.
As always Sunday’s race will be in the region of 10-12 miles of gentle ambling around the nearby Fells with the odd bit of up and down if you are super fit after the summer ,or harder work if you’re not, but either way you will only find out the exact course on the day. The “walkers” will be let loose at 10am with the “runners” chasing after them at 10.30am. The usual vagaries of the Handicap system will apply for that trophy with the others being awarded for Fastest Person, the Fastest Lady and the Concordia Trophy for the best first time effort by a new member of the club.
Volunteers for check points would be greatly appreciated so if anyone fancies helping out please let me know and could last years trophy winners either bring them along on the day or pass them to a committee member before the event. Thanks in advance.
