Castleshaw Amble & Cake

Philippa Maye

This walk will be about 7 miles on relatively flat terrain with a bit of an incline at the beginning and a steeper decline at the end of the walk. We will be taking it at a leisurely pace, especially if the weather is kind. We will start from the car park and head up past the left hand reservoir and through the farm on to the Oldham way and then join up with the Pennine Way and along Standedge Edge, then drop down and head towards the (not very obvious!) remains of a Roman Fort and back to the car park.

For those who would prefer more physical exertion there are also the options of A) starting later and running the route, B) taking your climbing boots and bouldering on Standedge Edge or later on at Pule Hill, C) completing the walk and reversing the route from the fort or D) all of the above!

If the weather is anything like it was the same weekend last year, then remember to bring sunscreen and a hat!  All welcome back at Jim’s and mine for a cuppa and cake afterwards, for those who cant make the walk feel free to pop in for cake anyway from 3 o’clock. Please let me know if you plan to come along, I’d hate to run out of cake!

Meet at 10.30 at the Castleshaw visitors car park on Waterworks Road Delph, OL3 5LZ. Map ref: 997 093

The walk will start at 10:40. Should the car park be full there is plenty of room to park on the road.
