Train strikes threatened to affect this meet, but at the last minute were called off, so we met at Hope station as planned, in glorious sunshine.
We headed through Aston and headed up to the mighty summit of Win Hill. From there we followed the ridge to Hope Cross, where Roger left us to head for Edale along the valley. We continued onto Crookstone Hill and from there up to the edge of Kinder, skirting around the edge north and then east until we struck across to Madwoman’s stones (obvious photo opportunity), and then headed for the trig point. On the way towards the south edge of Kinder, Mark spotted a hare racing off in its white winter coat, not well camouflaged for a sunny day! On the descent to Edale, and the Rambler’s Inn, Al took a tumble and dislocated a finger, which Trish sorted out in no time. It was a nice surprise to find Roger at the Rambler’s, waiting to join us for a drink.
Edale station was rammed with people, as a train had been cancelled and there were lots of groups at the pub. Most of us didn’t have sharp enough elbows to get on the first train, and had to visit the pub again, this time keeping a keen eye on the time!
Thanks to all for coming along, it was great to do this walk twice, first in thick fresh snow and a whiteout, and then in sun!

Meet Promo:
Hope - Edale walk SATURDAY 16/2/19
*** ALERT So far no sign of strike action (checked 15/2/19) so see you on the train or at Hope! ***
This walk starts from Hope railway station, and heads over Win Hill, and onto Kinder (route depending on enthusiasm and conditions), before dropping down into Edale. I tested this on a particularly snowy day, and had a brilliant time, I hope the weather conditions will be as good on the 16th. Those wishing a gentler day could head up the valley back to Edale rather than over the tops. There are hourly trains back from Edale so we might be forced to wait in a pub before heading back. Distance approx 9 miles/14.4km
Meet at Hope railway station 10:45 trains permitting.
The meet leader plans to get the 10:23 from Chinley, arriving in Hope at 10:38, and get the train back to Chinley from Edale.
The same train leaves Manchester Piccadilly at 09:49, and Edale at 10:32.
Hope to see you there!
Please get in touch if you would like to share lifts.
Christine
