Croesor Rhosydd through trip (CRTT)
Number Restrictions - 10 max, noting I already have 8 people and a couple of maybe's. Please just let me know if you're interested and I can start a list of people to sub in if anyone drops out closer to the time.
Croesor Rhosydd is a through trip from Croesor mine to Rhosydd mine. It is not a very long distance underground, but requires a number of obstacles to be passed including underground lakes and pits with a variety of in-situ ropes and wires to facilitate progress.
The most physically demanding part of the day is the 50-minute walk up a continuous but gentle incline to where we'll enter the mine.
What to wear -
- If you have a caving suit or cotton overalls, perfect! Otherwise tough trousers and a fleece would suffice (slate is sharp and can easily rip clothes).
- CRTT is not a wet trip, unless it is raining for the hike up the hill. It is, however, a dirty trip due to the oily soot on everything in the high level section.
- There are a few spots where we tend to queue up waiting to cross bridges and things and there is often a chilly breeze blowing through, so bring an extra fleece top or wind jacket for those bits, just in case.
- Walking boots or wellies
What to bring:
- Packed lunch and snacks, we'll likely be underground all day (8hrs-ish)
- You do not really need to pack small and light, we won't take the bags on the high level section, we leave them at the bottom to pick up after and then take them through the rest of the trip, mainly just walking and a little scrambling.
- A 'double' pulley, suitable for 12mm steel cable (something like a Petzl double pulley tandem speed)
- Single Rope Technique (SRT) Kit (Harness/chest harness/chest ascender/hand ascender/descender/cows tails (with at least one carabiner that fits over your pulley)/foot loop as a minimum). Note - I'm happy to talk this through with anyone, organise a session or two ahead of the trip to teach you how to use it and potentially borrow some kits from caving friends for the day)
- Gloves (cheap rubber building/gardening gloves are perfect)
- Helmet & head torch
Specifics on meet time and location to be provided nearer the time.
