Curlywee, the rig of the jarkness and all that jazz...

Hill-walking meet in a quiet and beautiful area

"The area around Glen Trool is as wild and rugged as many parts of the Highlands, and indeed the vast mountainous area between Loch Trool, Clatteringshaws Loch and Loch Doon to the north exhibits a Highland charm seemingly out of place considering its far southern location. The region is sometimes know as the 'Lake District' of southern Scotland."

Now I didn’t write that - I am not capable of such elegant prose - it came from Andrew Dempsters "A Guide to Scotland's 2,000 ft Peaks".

This is intended to be a hill-walking meet centered around Glen Trool, and the surrounding hills and ridges with their quaint names.

A suggested itinerary would be:

Saturday 25th May - A circuit of Craignaw, Mullwarchar and the Merrick. Circa 21km - 7 hours.

Sunday 26th May - A circuit of Lamachan Hill, Millfore and Curleywee. Circa 22km - 7 hours

Monday 27th May - Cairnsmore of Fleet Circa 13km - 4 hours.

We have two options as a base - or both depending on where people want to stay. The first is the Youth Hostel at Newton Stewart - the second is the camp site at the Glentrool Holiday Park at Bargrennan - just inside the Galloway Forest Park and close to the entrance of Glen Trool.

Both of the accomodation venues will need to be booked in advance so please let me know if you are intending to come.
