Climbing meet
Present: Colin Maddison, Roisin Maddison, Gareth Williams, Lucie Crouch, Andy Stratford, Dave Wylie, James Williams, Steve Graham, Max Bretherton
The meets list suggested an alternative climbing meet to “Curlywee, the rig of the jarkness and all that jazz …” thus after a bit of Scribble activity, and with some sense of guilt at not following Bob north, a few of us assembled a Ty Powdwr. So here for completeness is a bit of a meet report.
Saturday dawned fine and progressed into a mostly sunny day. The presence of a teenager precluded one of Andy’s alpine starts but soon Roisin, Andy and I headed for Ogwen. Original Route on the Milestone Buttress preceded North Buttress Route (by the direct start) on Tryfan’s East Face and so to the summit. All good fun in big boots in anticipation of the Alps.
Whilst Gareth worked on his project on the Rainbow Slab, Lucie and Dave also headed for Ogwen and enjoyed four routes on Tryfan Bach, and over in the Pass James and Steve shinned up Hazel Groove and Nea on the Grochan.
Sunday brought another fine day, and whilst Roisin slept on Andy and I were up at 6.30am or a jaunt up an Avalanche/Red Wall/Longland’s Continuation combination on the Lliwedd. Probably three decades on since I last did it, but still a fine mountaineering route with views across to the line of ants on Crib Goch and further round to the queue for the summit of Snowdon.
Elsewhere, James did his own alpine training following Max up Ribstone Crack on the Wastad with a sack. Gareth put in more dedication on his project and Lucie and Dave made short work of routes in Serengeti and Never Never Land, including the interestingly named Exploding Goats!
Alas, Monday brought heavy rain and high winds curtailing climbing but giving Ty Fuse’s new roof an excellent test.
