Standing Stones

James Smith

One of the slightly more esoteric outings in the calendar. As per the description on UKC, 'Falling stones' might be a better name than 'Standing Stones', but there are some good routes to be had nonetheless. There are two main approaches - from above (parking in the car park/ layby at SE 051 063 and take your life into your hands as you walk westwards along the A635 for 1km to a gate) or far better is from Dove Stones main car park. Please note that the car park at Binn Green remains closed due to works on the resevoirs. It is probably about 60 minutes walk from the main car park, but the best option is to throw a bike in the back and take a very scenic ride along side the three resevoirs up to the  SE 038 050 and then leave (with a lock!) you bike and scramble up towards the crag. The car park is £1 for up to 2 hours, £2 for 2-4 and £4 for all day parking. If you are planning to use your bike, you can even leave your car for free in Greenfield village, and ride along the river and up to the main Dove Stone car park before riding the same way alongside the reservoirs. If you are planning to park at Dove Stone, then use the west/ north side of the resevoir due to the works between Dove Stone and Yeoman Hey res's.

If you want any more information, please send me a message via the whats app groups or email me. I will aim to be there from about 5pm.

Thanks

James
